Cave of San Vito

Starting from Via Cescole and climbing a short stretch of Contrada San Cristoforo, one suddenly encounters a cave. Impossible to miss, it stretches across a vast area amidst the untouched nature of the Aurunci Mountains. This natural site, nestled among the limestone rocks of the area, is closely linked to the figure of San Vito, considered the patron saint of the sick and the suffering.

The entrance to the cave is particularly wide, and its structure suggests that it was used as a quarry in the past, with clear human interventions expanding its opening. A wall about two meters high marks the entrance, leading to the main chamber.

According to local memory, the cave was used as a shelter during World War II, bearing witness to the deep connection between the Itri area and its historical roots.
